the "assert our unique status" brief.

Challenge
St Deiniol’s Library is a unique institution in Britain. It is a residential library with a distinct, historical context being the national memorial to the library’s founder and four times Prime Minister William Gladstone. As a charity, the library needs to promote its role as a place for scholarly debate, discussion and research and attract new supporters and users.

Discuss
New to using PR services and with a modest budget to support six months of activity all efforts had to deliver tangible results quickly. Speedy research using ICG’s extensive media database and assessing specialist interest titles covering history, politics and religion provided the intelligence to brainstorm and agree a focused way forward.

Solution
ICG identified key events and celebrations taking place at the library which could provide springboards for PR stories including the bicentenary of Gladstone’s birth and the relevance of his ideas in the modern world. Our lateral thinking also saw the promotion of seminars through regional college and university intranets as well as competitions organised with the Chester Literature Festival and Writing Magazine.

Result
The library’s booking line started to ring following coverage in well targeted media including: The Guardian, The House, Liverpool Daily Post, Journal of Liberal History, Heritage magazine and BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. Impressed by ICG’s efforts our PR contract was extended beyond the initial six months.
